Our purpose

 

Fats and oils influence our health, planet sustainability, daily habits, and well-being.

 

To ensure their positive impact we must consider multi-level changes with comprehensive knowledge.

Changes such as usage, food preparation, and processing of fats and oils are crucial.

 

These changes require collaboration among consumers, scientists, industry professionals and people who enjoy culinary pursuits and cooking. That’s the why of Fats and Oils Community, to avoid isolated opinions and interests. We have a one target in common: how to eat healthy and in a sustainable way including fats and oils.

Fields of action

 

The Fats and Oils Community works towards food transformation. This is achieved through honesty and a singular purpose: to demonstrate the importance of fats and oils in our food and to highlight better ways of using, consuming, and processing them. To achieve this goal, the Fats and Oils Community focuses its activities on:

 

  • Coaching and consulting, providing support and objective information.

  • Promoting communication and accurate information exchange among four key players: consumers, the food industry, scientists, and culinary enthusiasts.

  • Acting as a pivotal voice advocating for necessary changes in the industry and consumer/cooking habits.

What conclusion did I reach? That fats and oils are an essential nutrient for our health and nutrition, and what we need to change is how we use, process, and consume them so that there is no doubt about their benefits and nutritional relevance. My 17 years of experience support this conclusion, and that's why I will focus on supporting this change in the years to come.

 

The change is based on my purpose, which seeks to benefit society as a whole, meaning it goes beyond the food industry. If approached from only one perspective, it won't work; we need to involve all stakeholders, especially consumers, meaning all of us. I aim to promote our nutrition and well-being, and therefore, I want to educate, provide ideas and solutions, innovate, advise, support, and build.

Efrain Rojas Uribe

After a year of starting my career in the food industry, when a friend asked me what I was working on and I replied that I worked in a fats and oils company, he said: "You're working in the industry that poisons us and makes us gain weight.” This statement struck me because I couldn't believe that I was working in something that goes against people's health and well-being, completely contrary to my principles. From then on, my skills acquired as a Chemical Engineer, my subsequent Specialization and Master's degree, and my work in research areas in the fats and oils industry have served me to discover if that statement was true or not.
